Fear seems to be the manipulative ploy of choice these days. What's the difference between a red terror alert and a yellow? Should I be more afraid, less afraid?
Should I refuse to go visit friends with parrots, not eat my sleep-inducing turkey meal?
Since I spend a good deal of time helping clients deal with fear of success, fear of failure, or a whole slew of fears, I'm not really surprised that fear is the tactic of choice. After all, it's been a favorite with parents and teachers throughout the ages, and governments as well.
FDR said, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." Maybe someone should tell that to the powers that be.
